P.S. (Pre-Scriptum) I like fashion. 🙂 I love trying out clothes. (Buying them is even better, but let’s stop here).
Today I would like to try out an apocalyptic hat and write about Apocalypsis. :O Would anyone be ready to think this is too big a hat for me?;) Well, this is a hat “made in heaven”, so it shouldn’t be too big for me. Hear me out.
I googled it (: and it confirmed: apokalupsis – αποκαλυψεις means revelation. In my native tongue this last Bible book is called Apocalipsa, so no clue as to the significance of its Greek or English name.
But let me open my Bible, page 1205: the very first word of Apocalipsa is “revelation”- The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants.Voilà!
Information is power nowadays, but people know more about Nostradamus or New Age stuff than Bible prophecies… Not to mention Eastern philosophies that have been gaining so much ground in Christian minds.
True, Apocalypsis is a very challenging book, but it does help its reader decipher its symbols. Wouldn’t it be extremely absurd and no fair-play on God’s part to call His last book Revelation and encourage us in the first verses to read and understand and then stuff it with cryptic codes impossible to ever decipher?
Truly absurd, but it is not the case:”Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near”.(Revelation 1:3)
“And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.
(Revelation 22:7, 10)
But why symbols, numbers, unusual imagery? It could be for the protection of the book throughout the centuries. And for universal significance, their interpretation being thus less restricted spatially or temporally.
The other major prophetic book of the Bible, the book of Daniel, ends on another note, different and similar at the same time: “But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.” It took centuries, even milleniums, until the book of Daniel started being understood, and the book of Revelation, written towards the end of the 1st century, would pick up the Daniel prophecies, continuing the prophetic thread, reaching our times and going down to the end of times.
The book starts with a glorious image and ends with another. After all the “apocalyptic” images throughout the book, the final one is very majestic, representing an overwhelmingly impressive global ceremony, a royal wedding – the symbol of the heaven and human families finally reunited. Everything is breathtaking about this great image: the location, the atmosphere, the outfits, culminating with the Groom and His Bride, God and His people…
Let’s find the perfect outfit, the only suitable one. I know just where to look… 😉
